Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy

Fundraising, donations and legacies

The Department has been at the forefront of Materials Science and Metallurgy for over 70 years. This has been achieved by the outstanding quality of the students and the staff over this time and their access to excellent facilities. Current research focuses on some of society's key challenges, including the creation of the energy-efficient materials and technologies on which our sustainable global future will depend, and improving the design and engineering of medical materials.

In order to maintain its position the Department continues to seek financial support to improve its facilities and endow a Sir Alan Cottrell Professorship in perpetuity.
